Produttori del Barbaresco Wine Dinner

There are few wineries that speak to the history and traditions of Piemonte quite like Produttori del Barbaresco. Founded in 1958 by the village priest Don Fiorino Marengo and 19 growers, the Produttori has grown into one of the great wine cooperatives in the world. Today, more than 50 families farm 120 hectares of Nebbiolo vineyards, all dedicated to the wines of Barbaresco.

I have visited the Produttori several times over the years, and these have long been wines that I love. There is something remarkable about walking through Barbaresco, seeing these vineyards surrounding the village, and then tasting the differences between them in the glass. The wines speak not only of Nebbiolo, but of the history of Barbaresco and the families who have farmed these hills for generations.

For this dinner, we will begin with the 2022 Barbaresco before moving to four of the remarkable 2021 single-vineyard Riservas. We will taste the crus side-by-side—Montefico with Montestefano, followed by Rabajà with Ovello—a chance to explore the distinct character of four of Barbaresco’s historic vineyards through the wines of one producer and one exceptional vintage. The wines will be paired with a four-course Piemontese dinner from chef/sommelier Michael Kirkendoll and the Pane e Vino kitchen.
